The Dragons (0-4) saw their comeback effort fall just short in game one, ending in a 5-4 defeat before a huge third inning for the Warriors boosted them to a 12-4 victory to complete the three-game sweep.
Game 1
Andrew Siler earned the start on the mound for Tiffin in game one, tossing three innings and allowing five runs on four hits with three strikeouts. All five of WSU's runs came in the third inning before the Dragons fought back, tallying two runs in the bottom half of the third.
A fielder's choice by
Griff Cady brought home the first run of the game for TU before a sacrifice fly from
Tommy Thamann scored
Isaiah Mirabal to cut the deficit to just three.
Then in the bottom of the sixth, Tiffin tacked on two more on an RBI-double by
Aidan Grabowski and another RBI-fielder's choice, this time by
Hilario DeLaPaz. However, the Dragons were unable to earn the final run to tie up the game before the end of the seventh inning.
Grabowski led the team with two hits, going 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. DeLaPaz, Mirabal, Thamann, and
Adam Deitschel were the only other Dragons to record hits. Johnathan Ray put in a good shift in relief, tossing the final four innings and allowing no runs on three hits and adding four punchouts.
Game 2
The Dragons got behind early in game number two, allowing 10 runs in the third inning. Tiffin picked up two runs in the fourth inning thanks to a double by
Ty Hatfield which brought home Cady. DeLaPaz later knocked a sacrifice fly to score Hatfield, making it 10-2.
TU added one in the fifth on an RBI-single to right field by Cady and another in the sixth after a pinch-hit solo home run by
Nate Adelman in what was his first at-bat of the year.
Six different pitchers appeared for the Dragons including
Patrick Dinnen who made his first start of the season and tossed 2.0 innings.
Mason Brunecz also made his freshman debut, pitching a three up-three down inning and adding his first strikeout as well.
Tiffin will now head back to West Virginia for a four-game series against Glenville State University, beginning on Friday, March 1 at 3 p.m.
