Tiffin University (5-2) posted a sweep on day one of the Blue Bridge Battle at Evansville, Indiana.
The Dragons shut out Missouri S&T 9-0 before dispatching Quincy 9-1.
Tiffin got good pitching along with big offensive innings in both games. In the opener,
Jules King got the win with 5 innings of 5-hit ball, totaling 7 strikeouts with just one walk.
King,
Molly Koesters,
Maddie Woods, and
Tara Gall all had two hits each.Â
TU got on the board in the second inning. Koesters singled and moved to third on Woods's double. Koesters then scored on
Aubrie Harper's fly out to right field. With two out, Gall then drilled a home run to give TU three runs in the inning.
In the third, KIng doubled to right and came home on
Reagan Mengerink's single.
Another run came across in the fourth as Gall slammed another home run.Â
The Dragons put the game away in the fifth inning with four more runs. Head singled and pinch runner
Ryan Wallace stole second. After Koesters reached on a fielder's choice, Woods drilled a three-run home run. Harper then reached on a two-base error and pinch runner
Bailey Hamilton then scored on King's two-out double to right field.
In the nightcap,
Claire Feldkamp got the win with 5 innings of work. She allowed just 3 hits and one earned run with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks.
Mengerink racked up 3 hits while
Maya Miles also had 2 hits.
TU got on the board in the opening inning. King walked and came home on Mengerink's single and subsequent error by the left fielder.
Tiffin blew the game open with a 6-run third inning. Hamilton opened with a double and moved to third on King's bunt single. Hamilton then scored on Mengerink's double to center field. Another run scored on
Maci Head's single. The runs kept coming when Gall doubled to center field, and two more runs scored on Woods's double to left field. The final run came across when MIles singled to drive in Woods.
Tiffin ended the game in the fifth inning with two more runs. Woods was hit by a pitch and then stole second.
Baylee Mirgon drove her home with a single. After Miles singled to put two on, both runners moved up on a wild pitch. Hamilton then ended the game with a ground out to shortstop that plated the game-ending run.
