Tiffin University (4-22, 2-16 G-MAC) battled back from a halftime deficit but came up just short in a 71-61 loss to Findlay.
The Dragons trailed 23-15 after a close first quarter but the Oilers improved their shooting from 50 percent in the first quarter to 58 percent in the second as they built a 38-25 halftime edge.
With Findlay leading 44-32 with 7:14 left in the third quarter, the Dragons caught fire, going on a 17-8 run that cut the deficit down to 52-49 with 1:03 remaining in the third quarter.
Tiffin continued to battle and trailed just 61-56 with 5:07 left. The Oilers, however, put together a 10-2 run over the remaining 5:00 to put the game away.The Oilers were also aided by shooting 50 percent in the final quarter while the Dragons fell off to a 25 percent clip.
The Dragons matched the Oilers in most statistical categories, with the overall field goal percentage being the deciding difference. Findlay shot 53 percent for the game while Tiffin connected at a 39 percent mark.
Findlay had 9 three-pointers to Tiffin's 8, 14 free throws to TU's 13, and 27 rebounds to Tiffin's 26.Â
Kirsten Williams had a strong game for Tiffin, netting 20 points with 9 rebounds. Williams's 20 points gives her 1000 for her career, making her the 20th Tiffin women's basketball player to reach the milestone.
Savanah Richards also reached double figures with 12 points, while
Grace Craig and
Ellie Gabel also had 9 points each.Â
