The Tiffin University (15-10, 9-8 G-MAC) men's basketball team traveled to nearby Findlay for the second meeting of the season as the Dragons were unable to hold off the Oilers in double overtime, 79-78.
Â
Following a back and forth start to the game, the Dragons went on a strong 20-6 run over the final seven minutes of the half to take an 18-point advantage into the halftime break. TU shot 57.1 percent in the first half and held the Oilers to just 35.7 percent shooting from the field.
Â
However, the script then flipped in the second half as Findlay's offense came to life. The Oilers opened the second half with a 24-8 run to cut Tiffin's lead to just two at 48-46 with 13 minutes remaining. Findlay went on to lead the game by five with a minute left on the clock before a three-pointer from
Ian Lopez and a last-second layup from
Wesley Jordan forced overtime.
Â
It was a tight first period of overtime as there were just two baskets for either team, forcing the game into double overtime. This time it truly came down to the wire as the Oilers got the go-ahead basket with just 13 seconds remaining with Tiffin unable to respond at the other end.
Â
Leading TU in both scoring and rebounding was Jordan with 22 points and seven rebounds. He was followed closely by
Joshua Rivers with 21 points and six rebounds. He added a steal and a block at the defensive end as well.
Â
Morgan Taylor ended the night with 16 points and a team-high six assists with eight of his points coming from the charity stripe where he shot a perfect 100 percent. Lopez added nine points, all of which were threes, and four rebounds.
Â
The Dragons now return home to face Lake Erie for Senior Day on Saturday, February 24 at 3 p.m. in the Gillmor Student Center.
