The Dragons (1-1) bounced back Monday afternoon with a decisive 16-5 victory over Lees-McRae on the road to tally the first win of the season and the first of
Samantha Cozzolino's head coaching career.
Tiffin struck first through
Caylin Kunze just four minutes into the opening quarter for her first of the season. The Bobcats responded with a goal of their own roughly two minutes later to tie things up, however, it was all TU after that.
The Dragons netted four more times to close out the quarter, including back-to-back goals from
Brenna Bohan. The second quarter was more of the same as they held Lees-McRae scoreless while adding five more to the tally, the second of which came from
Lauren Walsh who netted the first of her collegiate career.
TU held a 10-1 lead at the half and extended it to 13-2 by the end of the third quarter with
Guinevere Salas and
Ella Malinowski opening their goal-scoring accounts as well.
Bohan was the primary source of offense for the Dragons as she was involved in half of their goals scored, tallying eight points with five goals and three assists. She added three ground balls and three draw controls as well. Kumiega followed closely, posting a carrer-high four goals. Walsh contributed with two goals and an assist for a total of three points while Salas ended with a goal and an assist.
Lillian Graham led the team in draw controls with four and added a goal to her credit as well. Leading the way in ground balls was
Katelyn Jarvis who also netted her first goal of the season.
Jenay Rennie was in the cage for the Dragons through the first three quarters, recording four saves and just two goals against. Freshman
Sarah Hart made her collegiate debut in the fourth quarter as well.
Tiffin will now head to West Virginia for a matchup against former G-MAC affiliate, Davis and Elkins College, on Friday, February 23 at 12 p.m.
