Tiffin University (15-9, 9-7 G-MAC) traveled to Trevecca Nazarene to battle the Trojans for the second time this year, looking to complete the season sweep but fell just short 94-85.
Both teams were clicking offensively in this one, shooting nearly the same percentage from the floor as TU shot 57.4 percent from the floor. The difference came through the deep ball as Trevecca shot 50 percent from three, knocking down 10 while the Dragons shot 37.5 percent from beyond the arc.
In the first half alone, the score was tied up on eight different occasions as well as four lead changes. It was a back-and-forth contest through the opening 10 minutes of play. The Trojans eventually went on a run and extended their lead to as many as 14 points with five and a half minutes remaining.
The Dragons capped a 19-4 run with a three-pointer from
Ian Lopez in the final seconds to take a 47-46 lead at halftime.
The second half was just as competitive, with Trevecca holding a slight edge for the majority of it. With just under five minutes left in the game, three consecutive baskets from
Joshua Rivers kept the Dragons within touching distance. However, TNU was able to make shots and convert free throws to extend their lead and seal the win.
Wesley Jordan had the hot hand for Tiffin, scoring a career-high 33 points and adding 10 rebounds to record the double-double. Jordan shot 85.7 percent from the field and converted eight of his 10 free throws. He was followed by
Morgan Taylor who contributed with 16 points and six assists.
Lopez shot 66.6 percent from deep for a total of 12 points while Rivers was the second-highest scorer for TU with 19 in just 16 minutes played.
Tiffin must now travel to Findlay to take on its rivals on Thursday, February 22 at 7:30 p.m. The Dragons lost a close one to the Oilers at home, 68-63, earlier this month.
