Tiffin University (1-1) opened with a split on day one of the Music City Invitational, defeating Drury 5-2 and falling to Gannon 3-2.
In the game with Drury, the Dragons came up with five runs in the top of the seventh inning to get the win.
Trailing 1-0 heading to the final frame,
Lydia Kobie was hit by a pitch.
Jules King dropped down a bunt single to put two on and
Maddie Woods laid another bunt down to load the bases.
Maci Head drew a walk to tie the game, and
Molly Koesters hit a single to put TU ahead 2-1. After a sacrifice fly by
Aubrie Harper,
Reagan Mengerink hit a two-run double to left field to make it 5-1, Dragons.
In the bottom of the seventh, Drury brought the tying run to the plate with two outs but King pitched out of the jam with a fielder's choice at second base.
King got the win with 7 innings of work, allowing 6 hits with no earned runs, 7 strikeouts, and 4 walks.
King added 3 hits at the plate while Mengerink had a double.
Tiffin lost its opening game of the year 3-2 to Gannon as the Golden Knights came up with two runs in the seventh inning to take the late lead.
Claire Feldkamp took the tough loss, going 7 innings and allowing 3 earned runs with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks.
Tiffin took the lead first in the third inning. King laid down a bunt single to open and moved to second on Woods's sacrifice. Head then shot a double to left field to drive in King.
After Gannon tied the game with a run in the top of the sixth, Tiffin answered immediately with another run. With two outs, Harper singled and came around when Mengerink smacked a double to left field.
In the top of the seventh, a walk and a fielding error put two runners in scoring position with two out. A single up the middle plated two runs and gave GU the 3-2 lead. Tiffin went down in order in the bottom of the seventh.
Harper had 3 hits while Mengerink and Head had two hits each. Mengerink and Head both had doubles as TU's only extra base hits in the Gannon game.
