Dragons drop Friday night match to Hillsdale

The Tiffin University volleyball team (11-12, 5-7 G-MAC) fell in straight sets Friday night to Hillsdale (12-25, 22-25, 16-25).

With Hillsdale's win tonight, the two teams split the season series with both winning on their home floor.

A kill by Katelyn Owens tied set one at three, but Hillsdale answered with the next three and led the rest of the way. Back-to-back errors by the Chargers and another kill by Owens made it 10-7 Hillsdale. The Dragons trailed 14-10 after a kill by Kenedi Goon, and the Chargers would win the next seven and 11 of the final 13 to take the set.

The two teams traded runs to start the second set. Hillsdale took the first four points and the Dragons won the next five to take a 5-4 lead. TU got kills from Goon, Josie Reinhart, and Kaylee Freund during the run. The two teams would then exchange points which led to a 15-15 tie. The Chargers won the next three points and led the rest of the set. A combined block by Taylor Peterson and Freund cut it to one, 21-20, but the Dragons were unable to get over the hump as Hillsdale won the next three to make it 24-20 eventually and the Chargers ended up taking the set 25-22.

TU got off to a good start in the third set, winning four of the first five and seven of 11 overall. Another kill by Goon made it 7-4 Dragons and Hillsdale then went on another of their rallies, winning the next five to take a 9-7 lead and held the lead the rest of the way. Back-to-back kills by Goon and Wakaya Wilson tied it at 11, and Hillsdale took the lead back by winning the next four. The Dragons cut the lead to three, but the Chargers won six of the final seven points to win the match including the final three points.

Goon led the team in kills with eight, Addison Conti recorded a team-high 16 assists, and Diana Heitkamp led the way in digs with 13.

For the match, Hillsdale hit at a .255 clip compared to the Dragons' .060 hitting percentage.
