The Tiffin University volleyball team (11-13, 5-8 G-MAC) suffered another straight set 3-0 defeat on Saturday to Northwood (16-25, 23-25, 18-25) at the Bennett Center in Michigan.
Northwood started fast in the first set by winning the first five points and led wire-to-wire. The Dragons quickly got back into it and made it 5-4 following a kill by Kenedi Goon and service ace from Lexi Barber, but NU won the next two points to expand their lead back out to three, 7-4. A kill by Maggie Pavlansky cut the deficit to 9-7, but the Dragons could not get any closer for the remainder of the set and struggled offensively, finishing the set with a negative hitting percentage compared to Northwood's .229 opening set percentage.
The two teams traded runs to begin set two and the Dragons led 9-7 following back-to-back kills by Barber and Wakaya Wilson. Northwood responded to regain the lead, and TU followed with another mini rally to take the lead right back. A kill by Katelyn Owens and block by Wilson and Owens gave the Dragons a 16-14 advantage. TU held a 23-22 lead after a block by Addison Conti and Owens, but the Dragons were unable to close the set as the Timberwolves would go on to win the final three points and clinched the set with a kill.
The Dragons kept the third set close early on, but Northwood again led from start to finish. Another kill by Goon made it 9-8 Northwood and the Dragons could not get any closer the rest of the way as the Timberwolves slowly expanded their lead. NU won eight of the next 10 points to take a 17-10 lead. The Dragons went on a three-point rally late, but it wasn't enough as Northwood won seven of the final 11 points.
Goon led the team in kills with nine and Diana Heitkamp led the way defensively with 18 digs.
Overall, the Dragons finished with a hitting percentage of .073 compared to Northwood's .295.
The Dragons finish the regular season next weekend on the road in Kentucky, starting with a match at Thomas More on Friday, November 15 at 7 p.m.
