Tiffin University (14-5-1) reached the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Division II Men' Soccer Championships, winning its second round battle with Lewis 3-1 at Paradiso Fields.
The win was the first in Tiffin's NCAA postseason history after making seven previous trips. The win was also vintage Tiffin, as the defense allowed just two shots on goal over 90 minutes to the Flyers.
The Dragons jumped out to a 2-0 hafltime lead with a pair of goals in the final 15:00 of the first half.
Aalon Wilson Wright got TU on the board with a goal in the 32nd minute off a pass from PrayGod Palangyo.
The Dragons got their second goal in the 39th minute off a header from
Noah Purtz that came from a heel flick from
Amara Kamara after a corner from
Zach Garcia.Â
Tiffin's defense continued to make its mark, not allowing any shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes. Tiffin also outshot Lewis 8-3 in the first half.
Tiffin got another goal in the 61st minute from
Freddie Oliver from another pass from Garcia.
Lewis tried to pull closer with a goal in the 73rd minute by Christian Perez, but the Dragons' defense was simply too tough as it ran out the clock.
Felix Graf got the win in goal, making 1 save over 90 minutes.
Tiffin will now face Saginaw Valley State University on Dec. 1 at 1 pm. The Cardinals defeated Rogers State 4-2 on penalty kicks and will host the third round contest as the top seed.
