Dragons fall to Cardinals 2-1 in NCAA Third Round

Tiffin University (14-6-1) saw its stellar 2024 season come to an end with a narrow 2-1 loss at Saginaw Valley State in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.

The game was a frustrating one for the Dragons, who ultimately outshot the Cardinals 19-3 in the game and allowed only 2 shots on goal defensively. The game-winning goal for SVSU came in the 22nd minute off a penalty kick from Francisco Capellan.

The Dragons opened scoring in the 9th minute when Zach Garcia knocked it in the net off a double assist from Caleb Gibbons and Freddie Oliver.

The Cardinals tied it just four minutes later off a goal from Elliot Nottoli.

Tiffin held an 8-2 shot advantage in the opening 45 minutes, and they turned up the heat in the second half. They had an 11-1 shot edge in the second half, with six of those being on goal. SVSU's Nick Kay made the saves on those shots to keep TU from equalizing.

Tiffin put three shots on goal inside the last 3:30, with Oliver, Stephen Owusu, and Noah Purtz all sending in shots, but none got past Kay.

Felix Graf took the tough loss in goal, making one save over 90 minutes.
