Tiffin University (2-1) used strong free throw shooting to dispatch Davenport 64-55 in its home opener.
The Dragons used solid shooting in the first half (12 for 27) to win both of the two opening quarters and take a 33-28 lead into the halftime break.
Davenport used strong free throw shooting (10 for 15) combined with Tiffin's poor shooting (10 percent) in the third quarter to go on a 13-5 run and take a 41-38 lead at the 2:32 mark of the quarter.
The Dragons turned things around in the final period, going on an 18-6 run over the next 7:00 to jump out to a 56-47 lead. Tiffin held a 28-18 edge in paint scoring and also held a 42-35 rebounding advantage for the game, and Tffin buried 13 of 14 free throws in the final quarter.
The Dragons continued to sink free throws for the remainder of the game, and the Panthers never mounted a successful challenge. Overall Tiffin hit 24 of 29 free throws (82 percent) and held a 24-11 edge at the charity stripe.
Tiffin also outshot Davenport 37 percent to 30 percent in the game.
Bree Allen led the post players, totaling 18 points with 7 rebounds and a perfect 6 for 6 from the line.
Tomi Hinkle tallied 16 points with 4 rebounds, and
Megan Campbell also hit double figures with 10 points and 8 rebounds.
Presley Feltner also had 7 points.
