Dragons defeat Kentucky Wesleyan, clinch spot in G-MAC Tournament

The Tiffin University volleyball team (13-13, 7-8 G-MAC) officially clinched a spot in the G-MAC Tournament with 3-0 win over Kentucky Wesleyan (25-10, 25-11, 25-18) in their regular season finale on Saturday afternoon.  

In set one, the Dragons dropped the first point of the match and then never trailed again. With the set tied at nine, the Dragons gained control with eight straight points to take a 17-9 lead. During the run, the Dragons got kills by Kenedi Goon and Kaylee Freund and two service aces from Addison Conti. The Panthers made it 17-10 but TU went on another scoring spree, winning the final eight points of the set and overall took 16 of the final 17 points. TU closed the set with three straight kills, one by Olivia Karhoff and two by Goon. 

The Dragons jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in set two that was jumpstarted by Wakaya Wilson and Morgan Morley. With those seven straight points, that extended their domination to winning 24 of 25 points. The Panthers cut the deficit to 9-5, but could not get any closer and went on another run, winning the final seven points of the set that was once again clinched by Goon. 

Set three was another good start for the Dragons as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead. The Panthers did get back in it, cutting the deficit to one, 9-8, but they were unable to tie it or take the lead. After the Dragons extended their lead again, KWC got back in it and cut it two. Tiffin was able to keep them at bay and won eight of the final 11 points to earn their second straight sweep. 

Goon led the way offensively with 12 kills and Freund added nine. Goon finished with seven total blocks including two solo. Conti recorded 19 assists and Karhoff, Morley, and Diana Heitkamp each recorded double digit digs.  

The Dragons finished with a hitting percentage of .236 while the Panthers finished with a negative hitting percentage of -.034.
