Suzy Hayes powered the Tiffin University women's soccer team (1-10-2, 1-6-2 G-MAC) to a 3-3 draw in dramatic fashion Saturday afternoon. Today's result snapped a five-game losing streak for the Dragons.
Trailing 3-1, Hayes scored two goals over the final 1:28 of action including the game-tying goal as time expired on a free kick. With three seconds remaining in the contest, Ursuline's Julie Kaiser was given a yellow card to set the Dragons up with an excellent free kick opportunity just outside the box in good position on alignment with the goal. Hayes curled the ball around the Ursuline defensive wall and put it into the high left corner of past the outstretched arms of UC's goalkeeper Laetitia Scheunemann.
The Dragons trailed 1-0 at halftime but quickly regained momentum as they tied the game at one 52 seconds into the second half. Emma Lennig's initial shot attempt was saved by the UC goalkeeper and Mauriana Dorsch was right there for the putback.
Ursuline snatched the momentum right back just over five minutes later to take a 2-1 lead and the Arrows added a third goal exactly 10 minutes later after their second goal.
The Dragons' comeback wouldn't have been possible without Lennig and Hayes connecting on TU's second goal of the game with 1:28 remaining in the game.
Both teams had numerous offensive opportunities in the game as UC finished with 21 and Tiffin had 20. Of Ursuline's 21, only seven were on goal while 12 of TU's 20 landed on goal.
It was also a very physical game as both teams had 14 fouls.
Aubree Lee played all 90 minutes in goal and made four saves.
The Dragons hit the road again on Thursday, October 24 as TU makes the short trip to Findlay for a 4 p.m. contest.
