For the second time in just over a week, the Tiffin University women's soccer team (1-8-1, 1-5-1 G-MAC) suffered a 2-1 loss to Ohio Dominican on a late goal.
The Panthers scored the game-winner in the 83rd minute. Devin Schoenberger went sprinting down the sideline and sent a cross to the far post where she found her ODU teammate Jordyn Bena. Bena got her head on it, not with a lot of pace, but it took an ODU bounce as the ball hit the ground and ended up taking a leap over Malea Nelson's head into the lower right corner to give the Panthers the lead.
At the start of the game, the Panthers came out aggressive and had heavy possession. It was the Dragons though that had some space and took a chance early on in the fifth minute. Sam McPhee took a pass from Mackenzie Borden and sent a shot on goal just past midfield and the ball ended up over the ODU's goalkeeper Jadelyn McNerney into the upper right quadrant of the net to give the Dragons the early lead.
Despite taking the early advantage, TU wasn't' able to add on. The Panthers would tie it in the 30th minute as the ball rolled around inside the box and eventually landed at the feet of ODU's Carmen Morris who sent a shot just past the outstretched arms of Nelson.
Today's matchup once again was competitive and even as both teams finished the game with 11 shot attempts. ODU held a slight advantage in shots on goal with five compared to TU's four.
Nelson played all 90 minutes in goal and made three saves.
The Dragons play their final nonconference game at home this Saturday, Oct. 12 against Indiana (PA) at 1 p.m. at the Paradiso Athletic Complex.
