The Tiffin University men's basketball team (12-5, 6-3 G-MAC) traveled to Ashland for its second matchup against the Eagles and completed the season sweep with a 71-61 victory.
The Dragons had yet another solid defensive outing, forcing Ashland into 16 total turnovers for the game.
Ashland took the early advantage, leading 21-12 after the opening 10 minutes. However, TU battled back with a 15-4 run over the next four minutes to gain a two-point lead at 27-25. The Dragons held that two-point lead heading into the break after a successful three-pointer from
KJ Pruitt with 26 seconds remaining in the half.
Tiffin's momentum carried into the second half as they opened with a 14-4 run, extending their lead to 12 points at 48-36. Ashland continued to battle as it slowly brought itself back into the game, later tying it at 50-50 and even taking the lead with seven and a half minutes to go.
The Dragons were able to regain the lead and extended it to six points off a layup from
Wesley Jordan with two minutes remaining. The Eagles were forced to foul, and Tiffin held on for the hard-fought victory.
Four of TU's five starters recorded double-digit figures, led by
Morgan Taylor with 16 points. He added six rebounds, four assists, and two blocks to his credit as well. Meanwhile,
Ian Lopez posted 14 points on 40 percent shooting from the field.
Pruitt impressed in his season-high 36 minutes, recording 13 points on a perfect 5-of-5 from the field and adding team-highs in both assists (6) and blocks (3). Jordan tallied his third double-double of the season after racking up 12 points and leading the Dragons with 11 rebounds.
Tiffin will return home to face Hillsdale for the second time this season, this time on home court on Thursday, February 1 at 7:30 p.m.
