Tiffin Topples Conference-Leading Trevecca Nazarene 81-77

The Dragons (11-5, 5-3 G-MAC) earned back-to-back wins after taking down the visiting Trojans of Trevecca Nazarene who was sitting in first place in the Great Midwest entering the contest.

As expected, it was a very competitive opening six minutes of the game as both sides traded baskets. Tiffin held a slight 12-10 advantage before a 13-4 run over the next five minutes earned it an 11-point lead with just under nine minutes in the half.

Momentum continued to shift as the Trojans cut the deficit to just five points with 1:39 left in the half. Two consecutive buckets from KJ Pruitt followed by an Ian Lopez three extended the lead back out to 12 at 45-33 heading into halftime.

TU handled the ball and its possessions well in the second half, keeping pace with Trevecca and limiting itself to just eight turnovers offensively while forcing the Trojans into 17 in total.

Trevecca would once again cut the lead to just five with just over three minutes to go, however, the Dragons responded with back-to-back threes from Brandon Swaby and Lopez to quickly extend the lead. Tiffin held on for its fifth conference victory and improved its home record to 7-2 so far this season.

For the second game in a row, Lopez led the team in points with 23 and for the second game in a row, knocked down seven shots from three-point range. Both games he came just one three pointer short of the all-time single-game record (8). He added three boards, three assists, and three steals as well.

Morgan Taylor followed with 21 points on 13-of-16 shooting from the free throw line, both of which are career-highs. He also led the team with six assists and posted a career-high four blocks on the day. Wesley Jordan added 15 points while Swaby contributed eight points, seven rebounds, and four assists.

The Dragons head back on the road to face Ashland for the second time this season after defeating the Eagles 70-49 at home earlier this month. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at Kates Gymnasium in Ashland, Ohio.
