Defense was the name of the game for the Dragons (9-4, 3-2 G-MAC) as they held the visiting Ashland Eagles to their lowest scoring output of the season by far in a 70-49 victory in the Gillmor Student Center.
Tiffin was locked in defensively, holding the Eagles to just 34 percent from the floor in total and 20 percent from deep.
TU started the game off on an 8-0 run and it extended it to 18-5 after holding Ashland to just five points through the opening 10 minutes. The Dragons went on to lead by as many as 13 and held a 32-21 lead at the break.
The lead was never relinquished in the second half as Tiffin slowly began building upon it, behind 6-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc. A three-pointer from
Morgan Taylor followed by a
Brandon Swaby layup made it a 24-point margin, the largest of the night en route to their third conference victory of the year.
Five Dragons reached double digits as
Wesley Jordan led the way with 16. He was followed by Taylor with 15, Swaby and
DJ Gooden each with 11 and
Ian Lopez with 10. Gooden recorded season-highs in minutes played (11), points, and ended with a team-high three assists.
Jordan and Swaby both finished one rebound shy of a double-double after tying for the team lead in rebounds with nine each.
Tiffin is back on the road for its next matchup this Saturday, January 13, when it visits Malone University at 3 p.m.
