Dragons Go Undefeated on Day One of Eckerd Tournament

The Tiffin University volleyball team went 2-0 today with a 3-0 win over Wilmington (Del.) and a 3-2 win over Florida Tech.

Wilmington:

Wilmington jumped out to an early 5-0 lead to start set one. TU responded with a 6-1 run to tie the set at six apiece. The Wildcats countered with a 6-1 run to lead 12-7, then the Dragons went on an 8-3 run to tie the game at 15-15. Tiffin kept their momentum going to take set one 25-22.

A closer start to set two saw the Dragons hold a slim 5-4 lead early. TU went on a 5-0 run to take a 14-11 lead midway through set two. The Dragons took care of business in set two and won 25-17.

Tiffin jumped out to a 4-1 set three lead, but the Wildcats fought back to lead 5-4. The two teams traded points until TU went on a tear, outscoring Wilmington 12-1 to lead 20-8. The Dragons won the third set 25-14 for their first win of the season. 

Wakaya Wilson led the Dragons with 13 kills, a .357 hitting percentage, one assist, and 11 digs, Kenedi Goon had 14 kills with a .387 hitting percentage, three digs, and three block assists, and Alivia Rew registered seven kills with a .400 hitting percentage, three digs, two aces, and three block assists. 

Florida Tech:

Tiffin came out strong, building a 7-1 lead early to start the game. The Panthers rallied with a 6-0 run to take a 12-11 lead. A close match the rest of the way, but the Dragons took set one 25-22 winning the last four points.

In set two, TU went up 8-4 early. However, the Panthers went on an 8-1 run to take a 12-9 lead. Tiffin countered with a 7-1 run of their own to regain the lead at 18-14. Florida Tech regained the lead again, going on a 7-1 run to lead 21-19. The Dragons went on a 7-3 run to win set two 26-24. 

Florida Tech had a strong third set with a .650 hitting percentage, winning 25-12. 

In set four, the Dragons had a narrow 6-3 lead. The Panthers went on a 5-2 run to tie the game at eight all. TU countered with a 4-1 run that built a three-point lead, and Florida Tech countered with a 10-2 run to lead 19-14. Tiffin couldn't overcome the deficit and dropped set four 25-20. 

The Dragons came out strong in set five, building an early 9-1 lead. The Panthers rallied with an 8-2 run bringing the score to 11-9. TU went on a 4-1 run to win set five 15-10.

Wakaya Wilson led the Dragons with 19 kills, a .317 hitting percentage, 10 digs, and one block assist, and teammate Alivia Rew recorded seven kills with a .267 hitting percentage, two service aces, three digs, one solo block, and seven block assists. Clare Kwiatkowski led TU with 30 assists, two kills, one service ace, and six digs.
