Dragons win GMAC Championship

Tiffin University (18-7) defeated Findlay 4-3 to win the 2022 GMAC Men's Tennis Championship in Owensboro, Kentucky.

The title marks the second GMAC Championship for the Dragons, who last won in 2019. It also marks the second time in three seasons that TU has won the title (no title in 2020 due to Covid-19 pandemic).

Tiffin got off to a strong start, dominating two doubles matches to gain its first point. Cyrille Colomb/Gabriel de Oliveira streaked to a 6-2 win over Octavio Carrasco/Mark Ivanov. Matthew Weaver/Ruben Fonga finished off the doubles section with a commanding 6-2 win over Luigi Bove/Dallas Ramsay.

Michael Gurtner then put TU up 2-0 with a strong 6-1, 6-2 win over Alfredo Berlanga. Carrasco then gave the Oilers a point by defeating Daniel Martinez Roca 6-2, 6-4. Fonga pulled out a tough three-set match over Bove 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, but the Oilers bounced back with a tough three set victory by Ramsay over Weaver 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 to make the score 3-2, TU.

Matthew Telford then gave TU the championship victory with a razor-thin 7-6, 7-6 victory over Wilfredo Lara.
