The TU Women's Tennis team took on Ashland on Sunday for their second straight home match and achieved their second straight home win with a stellar 9-0 sweep.
TU started things off well in doubles with their second straight 3-0 sweep of doubles. Each doubles team had a score of 8-3 and each dominating in their own way. Nelhage and Kaye were able to outwit and out volley their opponents while 2nd and 3rd doubles consisting of Mazzola/Avram and Schuster/Brozovich battled tough and over powered their opponents.
TU finished off the match in singles with several big and a few close singles victories. 1st singles saw Nelhage win in a quick 6-0, 6-1 fashion while at 2nd singles Mazzola went into a 3rd set breaker to decide her match in which she won 6-2, 4-6, 11-9. 3rd singles saw Musina win handily 6-0, 6-1 while at 4th singles Harpaintner won 6-3, 6-1 with the third set being a tie breaker 10-7. The comeback of the match came to Bianca Avram who was down 0-3 in the first set only to battle back and win 6-3, 6-2. Avram was able to fire herself up off her teammate's energy and come through with a decisive straight set victory. The last singles match came down to Aimee Kaye to complete the sweep and she came away with a 6-0, 7-5 victory to complete the 9-0 sweep and propel the Dragons to victory.
The Dragons will have a short break as they prepare for the ITA regional tournament beginning on the 25th as they compete for individual honors amongst the region. Post tournament TU will get back to conference play taking on Grand Valley State and Ferris State on October 3rd and 4th. TU improved to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the GLIAC.
