Lady Dragons shut out Bluefield State 9-0

By sheer willpower and determination the Women's Tennis Team won in convincing fashion 9-0 over Bluefield State. The Dragons swept doubles with the only close match being 8-6 at 2nd Doubles. Nelhage and Beck continued their dominance on the court, picking up another victory. All singles matches also went the Dragons' way with a few finishing up in 8 game pro sets due to time constraints.

1st Doubles

TU - Nelhage/ Beck vs. BSC - Young/Hernandez

Ohio or West Virginia, the state does not matter for dominating duo Beck/Nelhage as they dismantled BSC's Young and Hernandez 8-3 Saturday. The Dragons played their standard style of patience and aggression with quick hands mixed in to give the team their first doubles point of the match.

2nd Doubles

TU -Avram/Harpaintner vs. BSC - Rudhu/ Mawisire

In a match decided by one break, TU's Avram/Harpaintner took the set with an 8-6 decision over BCS' Rudhu and Mawisire. Being down for a portion of the match it took a lot to dig deep and comeback for the duo whom are both experiencing their freshman seasons at TU. The turning point for TU was at 5-6. After an intense rally BCS couldn't handle a massive forehand and their shot sailed long. The Dragons went on to win 3 straight games and the match.

3rd Doubles

TU - Mazzola/Schuster vs. BCS Hernandez/Briales

Continuing right where they left off, the doubles pair of Schuster/Mazzola dominated BCS' Briales and Hernandez. TU was able to hold serve and break often to take the 3rd Doubles match 8-0. Both players played fantastic at the net and were able to close out points extremely well.

1st Singles

TU - Nelhage vs. BCS - Lucia Young

Picking up where she left off in doubles Nelhage took care of business with a 6-3, 6-1 decision against BCS' Lucia Young. A single break in the first proved to be the difference as both competitors fought back in forth, giving Nelhage a run for her money in the first set. After earning the first set victory, Nelhage rolled on to win the second set 6-1 with relative ease.

2nd Singles

TU - Mazzola vs. BCS - TaFadzwa Mawisire

In a match that was closer than it appeared TU's Mazzola persevered over BCS' Mawisire 6-3, 6-3 to give TU their 6th point of the match. Mazzola played aggressive early on, coming to the net often to win points. Mazzola was up 4-1 before relinquishing a break and a hold then going on to win 6-3.

3rd Singles

TU - Avram vs. BCS - Wendy Rudhu

Domination on the court led to a 6-0, 6-0 victory for TU's Avram. Winners were plentiful for Avram as she moved her opponent around the court in impressive fashion. Avram approached well throughout both sets, giving the Dragons their 5th point to secure the overall match victory.

4th Singles

TU - Harpaintner vs. BCS - Laura Hernandez

By the time Harpaintner was given the call to go on court, the match had already been decided so she only played an eight game pro set. Harpaintner made short work of her opponent, winning a decisive 8-1 match that saw many aggressive shots being the difference maker.

5th Singles

TU - Beck vs. BCS - Maria Hernandez

Picking up where she left off in doubles with teammate Nelhage, Beck won her pro set 8-1 due to the match already being decided. Beck dominated the court, moving Hernandez around and finishing points corner to corner. This is Beck's final spring break trip and she is starting it off on the right foot with a dominating performance in doubles and singles for the Dragons.

6th Singles

TU - Schuster vs. BCS - Marta Briales

Schuster comes through for the Dragons with an 8-0 victory finalizing the sweep for the Dragons. Schuster's match was the final match for the women and she came through with a fantastic performance, only giving up a few points along the way.
