Tiffin University (0-1) kept things close with Wisconsin-Parkside but a strong post game gave the Rangers what they needed in posting a 71-60 victory in TU's season opening contest.
After a close first quarter, the Rangers enjoyed a 21-9 edge in the second quarter leading to a 46-31 halftime lead. But the Dragons were not done, as they came out on a 9-4 run to start the third quarter and cut the deficit to 8 points at 50-42.
Wisconsin-Parkside maintained their composure behind their strong game down low, responding with a 16-9 run to effectively put the game away.
UWP held a 51-31 rebounding margin, including 22 offensive rebounds leading to 28 second chance points. They also held a 20-11 edge in made free throws.
Bre Nauman led the team with 23 points and 9 rebounds, while Alison Schirmer had 12 points and Allie Miller had 11 points. No other TU player had more than 5 points, with the Dragons shooting 33 percent from the field. The Rangers hit at a 35 percent clip.
