It promised to be a matchup of two of the best offenses in NCAA Division II when top-ranked Ferris State came to Tiffin to take on the Dragons.
But on this given day, it was Ferris State that put on an offensive clinic, putting TU in a big hole early and forcing them to play catchup. The Dragons could not make up the difference, falling 56-21. The Bulldogs improve to 5-0 while TU falls to 4-2.
The Bulldogs moved up and down the field almost at will throughout the game, converting 13 of 15 third down conversions. They totaled 644 yards of offense, including 403 on the ground. Overall they outgained TU 644 to 226 and had 34 first downs to Tiffin's 14.
Jason Vander Laan had a field day, rushing for 2 touchdowns while passing for 2 more. He rushed for a game high 151 yards while completing 14 of 16 passes for 203 yards. Along with running back Jahaan Brown (126 yards rushing), the Bulldogs jumped ahead 35-0 by the 4:53 mark of the second quarter.
TU finally got on the board with 27 seconds remaining in the half when Jalen Santoro caught a 15 yard pass from Antonio Pipkin to make it 35-7 at the half.
After two more FSU touchdowns to start the third quarter, TU got another score, this time from Jerry Brown on a 4 yard run at 5:26 of the 3rd quarter, capping a 9 play, 79 yard drive.
TU's final score came with 9:10 to go in the 4th quarter, when Charles Holland caught a 7 yard pass from Pipkin to finish off a 8 play, 72 yard drive.
Pipkin finished the day completing 20 of 26 passes for 197 yards and was sacked twice but was scrambling much of the day from a hard-charging Bulldogs' defense. Brown finished with 44 yards rushing, while Holland had 55 yards receiving. Pedro Correa III also had 50 yards receiving.
Defensively Morgan Loyd, Jawan Nelson, and Stefan Willis had 8 tackles each, while Roamelle Bell had 7 stops. Kevin Lefeld had 6 tackles with a sack while Jesse Stoudt and Willie Mays also had 6 tackles.
