Tiffin University (9-11) put together a valiant effort and made a late charge but came up short 10-6 in the GLIAC Tournament Championship game against Grand Valley State.
The game featured aggressive defense on both sides, resulting in a low-scoring contest. Grand Valley State opened with 4 goals in the first 10:00, forcing the Dragons to play catch-up from the opening whistle. The Dragons' Emily Roussel and Gina Abulone tallied goals to make the score 4-2, but the Lakers responded with 3 more goals in the final 9:00 of the half to take a 7-2 lead at the break.
The Lakers took a commanding lead after scoring 3 more goals in the first 7:00 of the second half, jumping ahead 10-2. The Dragons scored the game's final four goals, including three in the final 5:49, but it was too little, too late as they finished runner-up in the GLIAC tourney for the second straight year.
The Lakers held a 31-19 edge in shots and also held a strong 13-5 lead in draw controls. Jessica Bombard made 18 saves in goal, while Morgan Sherley and Abulone both had 2 goals in the game. Roussel and Tori Nelson also had goals, while Sarah Gowan had 5 ground balls. Nelson also had 4 draws.
