Tiffin University (2-0) used another strong rebounding effort to get their second victory in as many tries, outrebounding Wheeling Jesuit 53-39 en route to a 85-78 victory in their home opener.
TU led throughout the first half, holding a narrow lead but using 60 percent field goal shooting to take a 38-34 lead into the hafltime lockerroom.
The Cardinals stayed in the game by hitting 11 of 18 free throws and taking advantage of 11 TU turnovers. At the break, the Cardinals had outrebounded TU 19-17.
After the break, it was a whole different story, as TU outrebounded the Cardinals 36-20. When they weren't getting the rebound, they were scoring or getting fouled taking the ball to the hoop. TU went 15 for 24 from the line in the second half, while also hitting 9 three pointers overall.
With 8:55 left in the game and the score tied 61-61, TU went on a 14-4 run over the next 4:00 that put them up 10 points and put the Cardinals in a hole with the clock against them. Tiffin hit their free throws when it counted down the stretch to put the game away.
Four players reached double figures for TU, led by Karli Mast's 17 points and 5 rebounds. Mast now needs just 11 points to reach the 1000 point mark.
Bre Nauman had 15 points and 9 rebounds and went 7 for 10 from the line, Deidre McKay had 14 points with 6 assists and 5 rebounds, including 11 in the first half. Katie Miller also had 11 points. Jillian Adams finished with 8 points and 6 rebounds, Jordan Fraley added 7 points and 5 rebounds, and Jessica Farr grabbed 6 more rebounds.
