A large halftime deficit proved too much to overcome, as Tiffin University (1-5, 0-5 GLIAC) fell to Findlay 41-17 at Donnell Stadium.
Tiffin trailed 27-9 at halftime, as 14 second quarter points by the Oilers gave them a comfortable lead. The Dragons pulled to within 10 points with 12:28 left in the game but a Findlay score followed by a recovered on-side kick and another score put the game away for Findlay.
Findlay scored on its opening possession, pounding in a 2-yard run for a quick 7-0 lead at the 12:40 mark of the first quarter. The Dragons responded with a small drive that ended with a Seth Pekoe 33 yard field goal to make the score 7-3, Findlay.
Findlay connected on a 29 yard TD pass with 4:28 left in the opening quarter to make it 13-3, and then connected on two more scores in the second quarter to take a big 27-3 lead. The Oilers got scores at 9:14 and 7:50 of the second quarter on a 4 yard run and a 16 yard pass.
Tiffin did put in a touchdown with 3:00 left in the half as Dominique White exploded for an 18 yard run to make it 27-9 at the half.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Dragons climbed to within 10 points when Jeremy Armstrong caught a 10 yard pass from Dan Pitts for six points. The Dragons connected on a two point conversion to make it 27-17.
Findlay scored again, however, on a 16 yard pass at the 7:25 mark then recovered the on-side kick and scored again on a 15 yard run to make it 41-17.
Overall the Dragons defense could not contain the Oilers, as they outgained TU 514-318 in total offense. They also had 33 first downs to TU's 21.
White enjoyed a strong game, gaining 109 yards on just 14 carries (7.8 ypc) and a touchdown, while Pitts finished 24 of 39 with no interceptions for 174 yards and a score in place of injured starter James Capello.
Armstrong was the top receiver with 46 yards on 4 catches and a score, while Tyler Jones had 37 yards and Pedro Correa had 32 yards.
Brandon Person was the top tackler with 10 stops, while Carlton Watkins and Bryon McCorkle had 8 tackles each. Keith Butts added 8 tackles with an interception, while Mike Gomez and Joseph Collard had 5 tackles apiece.
