Tiffin University, ranked 23rd in NCAA Division II, knew that the competition in the GLIAC doesn't allow for any letdowns. On any given day, any team can beat any other team if the door is left open.
Saginaw Valley came to Tiffin and left with a narrow 1-0 victory, scoring the lone goal in a physical matchup in the 84th minute on a goal by Conor Reaume after a sideline pass from Zach Vasold that he deposited in the right lower corner.
Perhaps the key moment in the game came in the 30th minute when two-time GLIAC Player of the Year Ashton Campbell went down with a leg injury. The Dragons played the remainder of the game without him.
After a scoreless first half in which the two teams tied with 7 shots apiece, the Dragons offense never got on track, managing just three shots in the second half to the Cardinals' 9.
One of the best and last chances for the Dragons came in the 78th minute, when Edison Benda got a chance in front of the Saginaw Valley goal and blasted a shot high over the crossbar. It proved to be the last shot on goal the Dragons had in the game.
The two teams combined for 42 fouls in the game. Jeremy Ashley played 90 minutes, making 6 saves.
TU will get back in GLIAC play on Sunday when Northwood comes to town for a 2:30 pm contest.
