Tiffin University's women's basketball team opened on a 13-4 run and never looked back, streaking past Salem International in their season debut 64-30 at the Gillmor Center.
The Dragons (1-0) finished the first half on a 18-3 run, holding Salem to just 15 percent shooting from the field. While Tiffin struggled to find its offensive rhythm, shooting just 38 percent in the opening half, the defense did its job, forcing 17 first half turnovers and outrebounding Salem 25-17 by halftime.
TU held a 33-23 second half edge, improving its shooting percentage to 42 percent but also allowing Salem to improve slightly to 31 percent. Still, the Dragons held a solid 30 point lead for the majority of the second half.
Eleven different Dragons scored in the game, with Mandy Jaeb totaling 12 points with 4 assists and 3 steals. Karli Mast had 11 points. Jessica Harris had 7 points and 7 rebounds while Melissa Gilliland also had 7 points.
TU outrebounded Salem 44-33, with Harris (7), Jillian Adams (7), and Amanda Baute (6) leading the way. Tiffin also had 10 different players with assists.
