When it counted most, the Dragons found a way to win.
Tiffin University needed a win over Lake Erie College in their final regular season game to knock the Storm out of the GLIAC Tournament and take the final spot. With added motivation playing at home on Senior Day, the Dragons came through with a narrow 1-0 victory to secure a playoff spot.
TU finishes the regular season with a 9-5-3, 5-4-3 GLIAC mark while Lake Erie falls to 8-7-2, 5-4-2.
After playing to a scoreless tie in the first half, TU took advantage of a push against Ashton Campbell in the box in the 60th minute. Campbell knocked home the penalty kick for the 1-0 score.
The Dragons defense then stepped up and did what was needed to hold on to the win, with goalkeeper Jeremy Ashley making 5 saves over 90 minutes to pick up the victory. The Storm had one last chance with a ball in front of the goal with 5 seconds remaining but Randy Danso's kick sailed high over the crossbar as time expired.
Both teams had 15 shots apiece while TU held a narrow 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
Tiffin will now travel to the GLIAC tourney hosted by Saginaw Valley State, taking on the Cardinals on Thursday, Nov. 3. Time is TBA.
