The Dragons used steady play throughout the game to wear down the Storm as Tiffin (2-2, 2-1 GLIAC) defeated Lake Erie (0-5, 0-3 GLIAC) 4-2 Sunday afternoon at the Pardiso Athletic Complex.
Tiffin outshot Lake Erie 22-12 in the game, including 14-4 in the first half alone. Individually, Ashton Campbell scored the first two goals of the game and ended with all three shots on target. Jeff Frisch grabbed two saves in the game, all in the first half.
For Lake Erie, Alex Royko and Miroslav Pezer both led the team with three shots while Nathan Bias and Justin Mihaly both added goals. Rick Carreira grabbed 11 saves on 15 shots faced in goal for the Storm.
The Dragons needed just more than four minutes to notch the first goal of the game. With the ball bouncing around in the box, Nick Kutch's pass found Campbell who slammed the ball into the back of the net.
The Lake Erie defense tightened up following the first goal of the game, but it was still no match for the Dragons. In the 18th minute, Christopher Hoerle's pass found Campbell again, who chipped the ball over Lake Erie's goalie's head for his team-leading fifth goal of the season. Edison Benda capped the first half scoring at 23:31 when Michael O'Neill's blocked shot found Benda about 15 yards out for his first goal of the year.
Lake Erie tallied a pair of goals in the second but a Jesse Burke goal from Pierre de Pauw in the 86th minute sealed the Dragon win. Burke has only appeared in half of the TU games this year but has scored a goal in both.
Tiffin returns to action Friday when it travels to Saginaw, Mich. to take on Saginaw Valley State. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
