Jay is the son of Randolph Smith and Susan Hoezee. He is a graduate of Zeeland East High School, and arrives at Tiffin University via Kalamazoo Community College.

Jay was a 1st team All-Conference selection, an All-Region XII selection, and was a member of the All-Tournament team.

High School:

Smith was a 2-time All-Conference selection, and was an All-District selection
