2021-22:
Mertus played in eleven games, totaling 53 tackles (25 solo), one sack, and 3.5 tackles for loss. He was named Third Team All GMAC.
2020-21:
Mertus played in two games totaling 11 tackles (7 solo), one sack, 1.5 tackles for loss, and one forced fumble.
2019:
Mertus played in 11 games, making 60 tackles (30 solo)...also had 4 tackles for loss with a half sack with 3 deflections.
2018:
Mertus played in 4 games, making 28 tackles...he had 2 tackles for loss with a forced fumble and an interception.
2017:
Mertus had a good season going untill the injury bug struck. Jacob compiled 34 tackles, six tackles for loss, forced a fumble, and recovered a fumble.
2016:
Jacob was a standout on the defensive side for Tiffin, leading the Dragons with 85 tackles. Mertus compiled three tackles for loss, defended three passes, and recovered a fumble. Jacob was honored for his on field accomplishments, being an Honorable Mention All-GLIAC selection. Mertus had success in the classroom as well, making the Dean's list during the spring semester.
Personal:
Jacob is the son of Mark Mertus, Carla Mertus and Shelly Richards. He intends to major in Criminalistics.
High School:
Jacob graduated from Tallmadge High School. While attending, he was named the captain of the football team, and earned a 3rd team All-Ohio selection as a linebacker.
