ASHLAND, Ohio – The Tiffin University volleyball team fell to Ashland University in straight sets (25-15, 25-21, 25-21) inside The Sherrill Hudson Court at Kates Gymnasium on Tuesday.
After dropping the opening set, Tiffin settled in and battled the Eagles closely over the final two frames. The Dragons cut a six-point deficit down to three late in the second set and held a pair of leads in the third before Ashland closed on a 7-3 run to secure the sweep.
Parker Vackert led the Dragons with 10 kills, while
Katelyn Owens added another nine kills while hitting an efficient .500.
Amber Czerniak chipped in eight kills, setter
Kat Akolzin distributed 24 assists and recorded three service aces, while
Morgan Morley anchored the defense with a team-high 13 digs.
Tiffin finished with 34 kills and a .188 hitting percentage, adding 38 digs and seven total blocks. The Dragons posted their best offensive set in the second stanza, hitting .310 with 13 kills.
Ashland was led by Jenna Shedden's match-high 12 kills, while Myia Etzler added eight kills on a .400 attacking percentage. The Eagles hit .240 as a team and were able to keep the 'Gons off balance serving up eight aces.
The Dragons fell to 0-10, but will look to bounce back when they return to action at Spike Night Under the Lights where they will take on Heidelberg University at Hoernemann Stadium at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 21.
