The Tiffin University baseball team (17-31, 12-18 G-MAC) took the first two games of the series against Lake Erie, winning game one 10-1 and game two 3-0.
The Dragons dominated on the mound as five pitchers combined to strikeout 25 Lake Erie batters in the 16 innings played on Saturday.
Game 1:
The Dragons scored in each of the first four innings. In the first, Gavin Marceric was hit by a pitch to leadoff the game and scored on an RBI single by Griff Cady. Later in the inning, Brayden Clark drew a bases loaded walk which allowed Adam Deitschel to cross the plate.
In the second, Luke Westerman scored on an RBI single by Jovanny Skrelja and a sacrifice bunt by Deitschel scored Marceric. Tiffin added single runs in both the third and fourth innings. In the third, Dylan Ruhe blasted a solo home run to right center and in the fourth Jayden Leach singled home Deitschel with two outs.
Lake Erie's lone run of the game came in the third as Brandon Swope hit a batter with the bases loaded allowing a run to cross the plate.
In the seventh, Ruhe hit a no doubt grand slam to right field to blow the game open.
Brandon Swope got the start and earned the win to improve to 4-1. Swope struck out 11 across 5 no-hit innings and allowed one run while walking three. Luke Mager struck out two in 3.0 innings and Luke Gray recorded one strikeout in his one inning of work.
Leach went 3 for 5 at the plate while Deitschel went 2 for 2 and scored two runs. Ruhe went 2 for 4 with five RBI and scored two runs.
Game 2:
The Dragons plated one run in the second, third, and fifth innings, and each run was scored with two outs. In the second, Clark advanced to second base on a balk and scored on an RBI single by Ruhe. In the third, Marceric scored on an RBI double by Cady and in the fifth Marceric scored on a throwing error.
Mason Brunecz and Dominic Elia shut down the Lake Erie offense. Brunecz started and Lake Erie offense tossed 2.0 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Elia got the win to improve to 4-4 and threw 5.0 scoreless innings recording eight strikeouts. Elia scattered four hits and walked three.
Marceric was an on base machine, going 2 for 2 at the plate and scored two runs while also drawing a walk.
