Tiffin University (34-16) fell to Ashland 7-3 on day two of the NCAA Midwest Regional in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The Dragons opened with two runs in the first inning. After
McKenna Scott singled and moved to second on a wild pitch,
Tori McPherson doubled her home. With two outs, a
Tara Gall single brought in Tiffin's second run.Â
Ashland answered with two runs in the bottom of the first and then tacked on runs in the third, fourth, and three in the fifth to take a 7-2 lead into the sixth inning.
Tiffin's last shot to get back into the game came in the sixth. With
Reagan Mengerink and
Tara Gall on base,
Ryan Wallace walked to load the bases with one out.
Jadyn Bassi then singled to bring in one run and leave the bases loaded with the tying run at the plate. A subsequent strikeout and pop up to shortstop ended the threat.
Ella Esterby started and took the loss, allowing 4 runs over 3 innings on 5 hits.
Lexi Key finished with 3 innings of relief, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits.
