Dragons drop nonconference game against Cardinals 15-6

Tiffin University baseball (12-21) dropped a mid-week nonconference game to Saginaw Valley State 15-6 on Wednesday afternoon.

The game was considered neutral, played at UWM Field in Utica, Mich.

TU couldn't have asked for a better start, plating three to start the game. Dylan Ruhe led off with an infield single and a walk by Jovanny Skrelja and a single by Brayden Clark loaded the bases with no outs. Jayden Leach followed with an RBI single to make it 1-0, and Cameron Jantz drove home two with a two-run double.

Unfortunately for the Dragons, the Cardinals started fast as well and scored twice as many to lead 6-3 after one. SVSU batted around as TU starter Hayden Bush only recorded one out. Bush hit two batters and walked three.

An RBI groundout by Leach in the second and an RBI groundout by Cadence Varner in the third made it 6-5, but the Cardinals scored eight across the next three innings to blow it open, scoring two in the third, one in the fourth, and another crooked number of five in the fifth to make it 14-5.

Tiffin's final run came on a solo home run by Michael Patellis in the seventh.

Bush took the loss on the mound and dropped to 1-1 on the year after giving up five earned runs in 0.1 innings. Jeffery Oister and Luke Gray both made their TU debuts. Ethan Acurio tossed 2.0 scoreless innings and Patrick Dinnen struck out the side in 1.0 innings of work.

Ruhe and Clark both went 2 for 4 at the plate while Skrelja and Luke Westerman drew two walks.
