The Tiffin University baseball team (14-28) dropped a nonconference road game on Tuesday afternoon to seventh-ranked Grand Valley State 9-4.
Today's loss extends TU's losing streak to seven games and was the final nonconference game of thes season.
The Dragons did not back down from the challenge and plated two in the first inning. Jovanny Skrelja led off with a double and scored on an RBI double by Jayden Leach. Later in the inning, Leach scored on an RBI single by Griff Cady.
Recently, the Dragons struggled to shut down the opposing offense after scoring, and that was the case again today as the Lakers answered Tiffin's two runs with six to lead 6-2 after one. The back-breaking hit in the inning was a bases-clearing triple.
After the first inning, both teams settled in, and there was limited offense the rest of the way. Tiffin's other two runs both came on sacrifice flies by Leach and Peyton Ganda.
Andrew Baileys got the start on the mound and dropped to 1-1 on the season after recording just one out. Baileys allowed five runs (four earned) and walked four. Austin Guerra pitched 2.2 innings and allowed three runs on four hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Dylan Kaiser and Ryan Birch each pitched 1.0 scoreless innings, and Birch struck out two. Jeffery Oister pitched 2.0 innings and allowed one unearned run on three hits. Nick Hayes pitched a scoreless inning.
Leach went 1 for 3 at the plate with two RBI. Luke Westerman went 1 for 3 with a walk.
