Tiffin University (7-7) got a split on the final day of its spring trip, defeating Caldwell 3-0 and falling to Assumption in extra innings 3-2.
Lexi Key got the win against Caldwell, allowing just one hit over 7 innings of work with 9 strikeouts and one walk.
Tiffin got all its runs in the first two innings. In the first,
Tori McPherson singled.
Jessica Miller,
Ella Esterby, and
Reagan Mengerink all walked consecutively to get the first run. With two outs,
Jadyn Bassi got another RBI with another walk.
In the second, McPherson doubled to drive in
McKenna Scott and give TU all the runs it would need.
Against Assumption, the Dragons needed just one out to get the win but could not finish it out. A single up the middle with two outs in the seventh tied the score 2-2 and sent it to extra frames.Â
In the top of the eighth, Tiffin had runners on second and third with two outs but could not get the run home. Assumption picked up a run in the bottom of the eighth for the walkoff win.
Tiffin got its first run in the opening inning. Scott singled and stole second. She then scored on a double down the left field line by Miller.
In the sixth, Mengerink singled. Pinch runner
Tori Abel then scored on a double by Esterby.
