Dragons to Battle No. 12 Northwood on Saturday

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Tiffin University football team returns home this Saturday for a pivotal G-MAC showdown against No. 12 ranked Northwood University. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. on October 10 at Frost-Kalnow Stadium.

The Dragons enter the contest riding a four-game winning streak and sit at 4-1 overall with a perfect 3-0 mark in conference play. Northwood also comes into the matchup unbeaten at 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the G-MAC, setting up a battle between the last two unbeaten teams in conference play. This will be the 19th meeting between the Timberwolves and Dragons in the all-time series as Tiffin won eight-straight games from 2016-24 before Northwood edged TU in a dramatic 40-37 win last season.

The Dragons have turned takeaways into points, scoring 45 points off turnovers compared to just 21 points allowed off their own miscues. Moore is tied atop the G-MAC with his three picks, including the game-sealing interception as time expired to seal the five-point victory (14-9) over Ashland.

Tiffin's secondary has been one of the biggest reasons for the team's success. Opposing quarterbacks are completing only 46.2 percent of their passes against the Dragons and have thrown seven interceptions compared to just four touchdown passes. Tiffin has held every opponent except Carson-Newman under 100 passing yards while allowing just 452 passing yards total through five games.

MONEY DOWNS: The Dragons have excelled on money downs this season. Opponents are converting just 30.3 percent of their third downs and only 1-of-7 fourth-down attempts against the Dragon defense. Tiffin's defense has been especially effective in short-yardage situations.

Isaiah Funches-Foster ranks second with 23 tackles, while Frank Bertram has added 20 stops. Popeye Williams leads the team with six tackles for loss and fellow defensive lineman Radical Rothermel has totaled a team-best 2.5 sacks.

LAST TIME OUT: Tiffin earned a signature road victory at Ashland, defeating the Eagles 14-9. Despite posting a season-low 197 yards of offense, the Dragon defense stood tall, forcing two interceptions and holding Ashland out of the end zone until late in the fourth quarter. Jaedyn McKinstry had a career-best performance, hauling in receptions for 112 yards and a touchdown, accounting for nearly all of the Dragons' passing production.

FEEDING BLACKMAN: Fifth year running back Ronald Blackman continues to power the Dragon offense. Blackman has rushed for 503 yards and six touchdowns while averaging 6.6 yards per carry and more than 100 rushing yards per game. He has eclipsed the century mark three times this season, highlighted by a 144-yard, two-touchdown performance against Carson-Newman and a 138-yard, two-score effort against Thomas More. He leads the G-MAC in total yards rushed, touchdowns and average per carry.

ANTOINE DIRECTING THE OFFENSE: Quarterback Kyle Antoine has completed 64.4 percent of his passes while throwing for 926 yards and six touchdowns against only two interceptions. He owns a 154.4 passing efficiency rating and is averaging 185.2 passing yards per game. Antoine has thrown for at least 150 yards in four of five contests and posted season highs of 267 yards and two touchdowns against Northern Michigan.

SCOUTING NO. 12 NORTHWOOD: The Timberwolves are averaging 38.0 points and 462.6 yards of offense per game while allowing just 12.0 points and 223.0 total yards per contest. Their balanced attack has helped them secure victories over Wayne State (52-0), Saginaw Valley State (35-28), Hillsdale (10-7), Findlay (34-11), and Kentucky Wesleyan (59-14).
Offensively, Northwood is led by quarterback Ethan Hamby, who has completed 77.9 percent of his passes for 1,455 yards and 13 touchdowns while throwing just one interception. Hamby averages 291.0 passing yards per game and currently owns a 172.7 passer efficiency rating. He is coming off a six-touchdown performance against Kentucky Wesleyan and has thrown for at least 232 yards in every contest this season.

The Timberwolves feature a deep receiving corps with six players recording at least 100 receiving yards. Gerry Hanson leads the team with 278 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 16.4 yards per reception, while Case Boos has emerged as Hamby's favorite target with a team-high five receiving touchdowns.

Defensively, Northwood has been one of the top units in the conference, surrendering just 223.0 yards per game and holding opponents to only 42.6 rushing yards per contest. The Timberwolves have generated 23 sacks and 41 tackles for loss through five games. Joe Lathers leads the defense with 29 tackles, while Charlie Lovell and Tyler Marrogy pace the pass rush with 5.5 sacks each.

Northwood has also excelled in creating negative plays, recording four interceptions, five fumble recoveries, and a +8 turnover margin through five games.
