Volleyball Sweeps Malone on Senior Day

TIFFIN, Ohio – Picking up their second win in as many days, the Tiffin University volleyball team defeated Malone University in straight sets on Saturday afternoon (28-26, 25-16, 25-9). Celebrating Senior Day, the 'Gons honored Lexi Barber, Maggie Pavlansky and Katelyn Owens prior to the match.

In the opening set, the teams battled back and forth with no team building a lead larger than three points. Tied at 26-26, Parker Vackert slammed a kill to bring the 'Gons to set point. An attack error by Malone secured the 28-26 victory for the hosts.

Tiffin used a 7-2 run in the second set to create distance from the Pioneers. The Dragons turned a 10-8 lead into a commanding 17-9 edge. Holding the momentum for the remainder of the set, two late kills by Brookelyn Schmidt helped Tiffin extend its lead to nine. Freshman Kensie Butler closed out the 25-16 win with a service ace.

The story was all Tiffin in the final set, as the 'Gons jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Kat Akolzin served three aces as part of a 7-1 run, inflating the advantage to 12-3. Tiffin continued to pressure Malone and keep control of the set, as Vackert's kill ended the match with a decisive 25-9 set three win.

Owens paced the Dragon offense with 13 kills on 17 swings and zero errors, hitting at an outstanding .765 margin. Vackert added nine kills with Amber Czerniak slamming seven. Akolzin's 19 assists were a team-best, with Pavlansky's 18 just behind. Junior libero Morgan Morley led the squad, totaling 13 digs in the win.

For the match, the Dragons attacked at a .408 clip, highlighted by sparkling .733 and .611 marks across the final two sets. After committing seven attack errors in the first set, Tiffin finished the rest of the match with just one.

The Dragons will return to action on Tuesday night when they host Cedarville University inside the Gillmor Student Center. In their Dig Pink match, game time will begin at 7 p.m.
