Dragons Down Arrows in Four Sets

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – On the second day of its Cleveland trip, the Tiffin University volleyball team earned a four set victory over Ursuline College. The 'Gons dropped the Arrows with scores of 25-12, 25-23, 14-25, 26-24, earning their third win in their last four matches.

In the opening set, Tiffin used a 10-2 run to build a large lead at 19-8. A Symari Scott kill ignited the run before Morgan Morley served a pair of aces. Tiffin maintained all of the momentum in the first set, as Rian Strickland's kill gave the Dragons a 25-12 set one victory.

Tiffin claimed the second set by a 25-23 score, consistently holding a slight edge over Ursuline. With Tiffin leading 24-19, the Arrows rallied for five consecutive points to close the gap to 24-23. Maggie Pavlansky slammed the door and secured the win for Tiffin with a kill to win the second set.

The story was all Ursuline in the third set, utilizing an early run to vault the lead to 13-6. Tiffin was unable to stop the potent Arrow offense, who swung at a .619 clip in the set, falling 25-14 in the third.

In a gritty, back-and-forth fourth set, Ursuline worked back from a late deficit to threaten a fifth set, moving to set point, leading 24-22. After a service error by the hosts kept the 'Gons in the set, Katelyn Owens' solo block evened the score at 24-24. Freshman Kensie Butler followed with a service ace and Amber Czerniak sealed the Tiffin victory with her sixth kill of the night, 26-24.

Symari Scott led the Dragons with 13 kills. Sophomore Parker Vackert added nine kills, while Owens was efficient, tallying eight kills at a .429 hitting percentage. Pavlansky dished out 21 assists to lead the team, with Kat Akolzin adding 13. Defensively, Tiffin was led by Morley and Lexi Barber's nine digs apiece, with Pavlansky and Czerniak each recording eight.

Next weekend, the Dragons will compete at the Midwest Region Crossover in Indiana. Game times and opponents are yet to be determined and will be announced later this week.
