The Tiffin University volleyball team (1-2) fell in straight sets (13-25, 14-25, 18-25) against Concordia-St. Paul, ranked 13th in the country to finish off the UIndy Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The Dragons did not hold a lead in either the first or second sets. The Golden Bears won seven in a row and 11 of 12 to turn a 5-4 lead into a 16-5 lead in the opening set. Later on, the Dragons won five straight and six of seven to cut the deficit to 22-13 but the Golden Bears won the final three points in a row to take the first set.
In the second set, the Dragons got kills from Parker Vackert, Kaylee Freund, and Jada Shade but it was the Golden Bears who tallied five in a row to lead 10-3. A kill from Maggie Pavlansky cut it to 18-11 and CSP finished strong winning seven of the final 10 points of the set.
Shade started the third set with a kill to give TU their first lead of the day. The Dragons won three of the first four points until CSP put together eight straight to take a 9-3 lead. Two kills by Katelyn Owens and one by Vackert turned a four-point deficit (16-11) into a one-point deficit (16-15) but the Dragons were unable to get any closer or overtake the Golden Bears again.
Vackert led the way in kills with seven and Pavlansky added 20 assists. Taylor Kirker led the team in digs with 10.
The Dragons finished the match with a .082 hitting percentage while the Golden Bears hit at a .394 pace.
