The Tiffin University women's soccer team (1-1-1) played their first home game of the season on Thursday afternoon on the brand-new turf field at the Paradiso Athletic Complex. The debut was spoiled as the Dragons were dealt a 4-0 defeat by the visiting Rollins College Tars.
The visitors tacked on three first-half goals and continuously put pressure on the TU defense in the first 45 minutes. The Tars opened the scoring in the 8th minute and added their second in the 23rd minute. The third goal was a tough break for the Dragons as Tiffin could not gain control of the ball off a Rollins corner kick. The ball deflected off a couple TU defenders and landed at the feet of Skylar Kruszka who was able to get the shot past TU goalkeeper Sam McPhee.
The fourth and final goal of the game came in the 68th minute. The Dragons were able to put some offensive pressure on the RC defense early in the second half but couldn't find the back of the net. Autumn Schweitzer and Callie Cacchione both sent shots just off target off to the right. Dani Garner then sent one on goal but it was an easy save for RC's goalkeeper Lauren Mehos as the ball didn't have a lot of power off Garner's foot. All three shot attempts came in a 2:19 span and it was the Dragons' only shot attempts of the half.
Rollins totaled 14 shots with six being on goal compared to just six by the Dragons with three on goal. Rollins also had seven corner kicks in the game and the Dragons had zero.
McPhee took the loss in goal, playing all 90 minutes making two saves. Schweitzer led the team in shot attempts with three and two were on goal.
