Tiffin University (43-13) battled the University of Indianapolis and the elements in the opening round of the Midwest Regional, falling in 9 innings to the Greyhounds 2-1.

After playing two innings, the game was halted by a three-hour rain delay as the weather played havoc with the opening day schedule. 

When play resumed, the Dragons got on the board in the third inning. Reagan Mengerink singled and advanced to second on a groundout. With two outs, Baylee Mirgon singled to drive in the run and give TU a 1-0 lead.

Tiffin held the lead until the fifth inning. UIndy pushed a run across with a bases loaded fielder's choice to tie the score 1-1.

Ella Esterby started the game and allowed the only earned run over her 5 innings of work. She allowed 5 hits with two strikeouts. Lexi Key took over in the sixth, tossing 4 innings and allowing just one hit while fanning 4.

Tiffin had runners in scoring position in the sixth and seventh innings but could not drive home a run. In the top of the ninth with two outs, an error at shortstop allowed the Greyhounds to plate a run.

Tiffin was unable to get a runner in scoring position over the final two innings in taking the loss.

Key took the pitching loss, allowing no earned runs.

Due to the rain delay, game two featuring Hillsdale and Lewis was halted tied 2-2 after 10 innings due to darkness. The Dragons will take on the loser of that contest at 3 pm May 9. The winner of that game will tangle with Indianapolis at 12:30 pm.
