Game Recap: Baseball |

Tiffin loses series at Walsh

Tiffin University baseball (13-16, 5-7 G-MAC) got swept by Walsh on Saturday afternoon falling 9-5 in game one and 12-2 in game two. With today's results, the Dragons lost three of four in a series for the second straight weekend.

The Dragons stranded two runners in the first inning in game one and Walsh put a five-spot on the board to take the early lead. The Cavaliers scored at least one run in the first five innings with the Dragons only keeping them off the board in the sixth.

All five of Tiffin's runs came via the long ball. Aidan Grabowski hit a solo home run in the second, Andrew Fairbrother hit a solo shot in the third and Fairbrother hit a three-run home run in the seventh.

Tiffin tried to rally from down 7-2 in the seventh but following Fairbrother's home run, Cal Brazier, Griff Cady, and Julian Hernandez were retired in order.

Keegan Phillips (L, 0-3) started and took the loss, pitching just 0.2 innings and allowed five runs on three hits. Steven Sexton pitched 0.2 innings and allowed one run on two hits. Nick Feasel pitched 2.2 innings and allowed two runs on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Brandon Swope pitched 2.0 innings and allowed one unearned run on two hits and struck out two.

Fairbrother went 3-for-4 at the plate with 4 RBI and Luke Westerman went 2-for-3. Brazier and Hilario DeLaPaz each drew a walk.

In game two, Andrew Fairbrother continued his power tear with a home run to put Tiffin on top 1-0. The lead didn't last though as Walsh scored three in the bottom of the inning off TU starter Brett Nicodemus and the Cavaliers led the rest of the way.

The Dragons had four batters reach base safely in the fourth but only managed one run when Cady reached on a fielder's choice which scored Fairbrother. Tiffin's final hit of the game came with two outs in the fifth off the bat of Ty Hatfield.

Walsh scored in five of the eight innings including a big five spot in the seventh and scored one more in the eighth to put the run rule into play.

The top four in the lineup were responsible for the Dragons' five hits. Fairbrother had two and Dylan Ruhe, Hatfield, and Cal Brazier each had one.

Brett Nicodemus (L, 1-1) started and took the loss, pitching 2.1 innings and allowed four runs on three hits. Mason Brunecz pitched 2.2 innings and allowed two runs on four hits with three strikeouts. Brett Madison pitched 1.2 innings and allowed four runs on four hits with two strikeouts. Zach Johnson did not record an out in his appearance and Andrew Baileys pitched 1.0 innings with two strikeouts allowing one run on two hits.
