Tiffin University women's lacrosse (1-2) got their first win of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating Davis & Elkins College 11-7 at the Paradiso Athletic Complex.
It was the Senators who got off to a good start as they got off to a good start to take a 2-0 lead. A turnover by Kenna Wigginton led to the Senators' first goal of the game. 32 seconds later, Caylin Kunze and Guinevere Salas connected on a goal to get the Dragons on the board.
Lauren Walsh tied the game late in the first quarter, and the Senators responded to retake the lead early in the second quarter. Trailing 3-2, Ella Malinowski assisted Kunze on her second goal of the game to tie it at 3, and with 2:55 remaining until halftime, Walsh connected on her second goal to give Tiffin a 4-3 lead. Tiffin would hold the lead from there and not trail for the rest of the game.
Lillian Graham scored the Dragons' third goal of the second quarter and Tiffin took a 5-3 lead into halftime.
The third quarter was even with both teams scoring two goals and each time the Senators scored to get within one, the Dragons answered with a goal.
Salas, Katelyn Jarvis, and Jessa Zaheri scored one goal each in the first 10 minutes of the final quarter to extend Tiffin's lead to 10-5. As a team, the Dragons connected on a game-high four goals in the final quarter to secure the victory.
Sarah Hart got the start in goal and played 45:00 minutes to pick up the win. Hart made three saves and allowed five goals. Sadie Wermuth played the final 15:00 minutes and recorded six saves while allowing two goals.
Kunze and Graham led the way offensively scoring three goals each. Walsh added two goals. Wigginton, Walsh, Malinowski, Graham, Kunze, and Salas had one assist each.
