Michael Lucarotti scored a career-high 25 points in Saturday's game against Kentucky Wesleyan, but it wasn't enough as the Dragons (3-5, 0-3 G-MAC) lost to the Panthers 75-65.
The Panthers took a 46-37 lead into halftime after shooting 56 percent in the opening half and connecting on eight three-pointers. Meanwhile, the Dragons were –18 from beyond the arc after making just two three-pointers in the opening half.
A layup by Lucarotti with 2:47 remaining in the first half cut the deficit to 39-37 and the Panthers ended the half on a 7-0 run as the Dragons were held without a point after the layup at the 2:47 mark.
Two free throws by Lucarotti with 11:16 remaining tied the game at 52 and a layup by Noah Smith gave the Dragons a 61-57 lead with just over eight minutes remaining. The Panthers would close the game on an 18-4 run as the Dragons were victims of yet another scoring drought.
Along with his 25 points, Lucarotti also had six rebounds and two assists. Smith finished with 14 points and six rebounds. Jonah Nesmith finished with nine points and four rebounds, and Ethan Damerum led the team in assists with four.
The Dragons left eight points at the charity stripe, converting just 9 of 17. Tiffin was also –15 in the long-range game as the Panthers made nine compared to the Dragons' four.
The Dragons will travel to Puerto Rico for their next two games as part of the Puerto Rico Clasico.
