The Tiffin University volleyball team (9-13, 4-9 G-MAC) bounced back on Saturday after a tough five-set loss the night before, and defeated Kentucky Wesleyan in straight sets 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-23).
Saturday's win keeps the Dragons' slim hopes of a G-MAC Tournament berth alive, and junior setter Maggie Pavlansky reached 1,000 career assists in the match.
The teams traded four-points runs early in the opening set. The Panthers turned a 4-2 deficit into a 6-4 lead, and the Dragons responded back immediately with four of their own to take an 8-6 lead. With a 13-11 lead, Tiffin took control winning seven straight to make it 20-11 capped off with a kill by Katelyn Owens. The Dragons clinched the set with two attack errors by the Panthers.
Much like the first set, the second set started out tight that saw the teams tied at five. TU went on a big 9-0 to blow it open to make it 14-5 and another attack error by the Panthers ended the set.
The Dragons had to withstand a furious comeback attempt by the Panthers in the third set. Two kills by Jada Shade gave TU an eight-point cushion of 21-13, but Kentucky Wesleyan won 10 of the next 12 points to make it 23-23. The Dragons regrouped and clinched the sweep with a solo block by Avery Young.
Olivia Karhoff led the way offensively with eight kills and Maddie Daniel added six. Owens had five kills and three solo blocks. Parker Vackert finished with four kills.
Morgan Morley led the way defensively with eight digs, and Pavlansky added seven digs to go along with 23 assists. All but two Dragons saw playing time in the match.
