The Tiffin University men's basketball team (1-1) had four players finish in double figures as the Dragons defeated Lewis 77-59 in the final game of the GLVC/G-MAC Crossover on Saturday afternoon at the Gillmor Center.
The Dragons started strong and took advantage of poor offensive play by the Flyers. Demar Burton, D'monyae Davis, and TJ Pangonas fueled a 9-0 to turn a 6-6 tie into a 15-6 lead. The Flyers went on an 8-0 run late in the first half to cut an 11-point deficit to three, though KJ Pruitt converted an old fashioned and-one to give TU a 31-25 into the break.
The Dragons never allowed Lewis to get close in the second half and maintained a double-digit lead for the final 16:08. A dunk by Burton fueled a 9-0 run as the Dragons built an 18-point lead of 49-31 following a three by Jonah Nesmith. A three-pointer by Marquel Newsome with under a minute left giving the Dragons a 77-57 lead, their largest of the game.
Nesmith led the Dragons with 18 points while Burton finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks. Pangonas added 14 points and made four three-pointers. Davis finished with 11 points while Pruitt put together a line of seven points, seven assists, and six rebounds.
Tiffin shot 51 percent (26-51) in the game.
